This report was prepared by the Industry & Community Network Centre (ICNet) to inform about the Industrial Training Data Report For The Year 2009 To 2010. ICNet has been tasked as the secretariat to coordinate the implementation of Industrial Training at University Level in terms of policies and procedures of the industrial training for degree and diploma programs. Industrial Training Data Report For The Year 2009 To 2010 will be a reference to ICNet and the university as a whole and as a source of information to MyMoheS data required by Ministry of Higher Education.
Preparation for this industrial training data have been collected by ICNet with the assistance of the Industrial Training Coordinator of the Faculties. This report includes the number of degree and diploma students who have undergone industrial training according to the department in their respective faculties, the number of students by location of industrial training, number of students according to the industry status, the total amount spent by the faculty and the number of industrial training supervisors involved from 2009-2010.
From 2009 to 2010, the charts below show the total number of UTeM Degree and Diploma students who have undergone industrial training according to the faculty, according to state and industry status.


UTeM AND SOUTH KOREA TIE RELATIONS TO ENHANCE INNOVATION AND R&D | | |
The excellence in Research and Innovation in UTeM has getting more attention from international companies to tie relations in research and other academic activities.
Recently, on 19 May 2011, the President of Man&Tel, Prof. Dr. Jung Kwang Kwook from South Korea visited UTeM main campus in Durian Tunggal. During the visit, Prof. Dr. Jung also donated a few units of high end telecommunication equipment to the Faculty of Electronics Engineering and Computer Engineering.
Man & Tel is a manufacturer of high end telecommunication equipment which is used in teaching and learning in higher educational institution all over the world. Among the products manufactured include Bluetooth products, RFID technology and wireless communication appliances which are used by lecturers and students in studying electronics communication technology.

MOHE INVITED INDUSTRY TO JOIN MyPhD TO ENHANCE TECHNOLOGY | | |
Local engineering companies are urged to grab the opportunities to join the Engineering Doctorate or PhD for (MyPhD: MyBrain15 programme) offered by Ministry of Higher Education Malaysia (MOHE). This is to solve the problems of some companies which do not implement sufficient research projects related to new technology. Datuk Seri Mohamed Khaled Nordin, the Minister of Higher Education Malaysia said that the industry can cooperate with higher educational institutions (HeIs) in implementing high end research using latest engineering applications through the Engineering Doctorate research conducted by their staff. Datuk Seri Mohamed Khaled witnessed the Memorandum of Agreement (MoA) signing ceremony between UTeM and industries on 25 July 2011 at Marriot Hotel, Putrajaya. UTeM Vice Chancellor, Prof. Datuk Dr. Ahmad Yusoff Hassan and Deputy Vice Chancellor (Academic and International), Dato’ Professor Dr. Mohd. Nor bin Husain signed the MoA documents on behalf of UTeM. Deputy Vice Chancellor (Research and Innovation), Prof. Dato’ Muhamad Kadim bin Suaidi and MoA with industries is required by MOHE before HeIs can conduct the Engineering Doctorate and the students to be funded under the MyBrain15 programme. Six senior management staff from Composites Technology Research Malaysia Sdn. Bhd., Infineon Technologies (Kulim), Infineon Technologies (Melaka), Solid Precision Engineering, National Semiconductor (Melaka) dan Rubber Leisure Product Sdn. Bhd. signed the MoA documents on behalf of their respective companies. |

ASSISTING INDUSTRY STAFF TO WRITE GOOD RESEARCH PROPOSAL TO APPLY FOR POSTGRADUATE STUDIES | | |
UTeM organized a talk entitled ” How to write a good research proposal” to Infineon Technologies (Melaka) Sdn. Bhd. staff on 27 June 2011. The talk was attended by 30 staff consisted of engineers, administrators and technical staff of Infineon Melaka. The talk was presented by Dr. Jariah Mohamad Juoi who is the Director for Academic Planning and Development Office, UTeM. The main purpose of the programme was to introduce UTeM and to promote Postgraduate Studies to Infineon staff. Through this talk also, the participants were briefed on guidelines to write a good research proposal. Dr. Tay Choo Chuan, the coordinator for the Postgraduate Centre UTeM who was also attended the talk informed that the programme objective was to convey a more detailed information related to opportunities for Masters and Doctorate studies at UTeM for industry staff.

UTeM AND LOTUS ENGINEERING TO EXPLORE RESEARCH COLLABORATION OPPORTUNITIES | | |
Universiti Teknikal Malaysia Melaka (UTeM) will enhance its effort to develop research sector which focused on high end engineering through strategic collaboration with the industries.
Recently on 14th. June, UTeM and Lotus Engineering held discussion to identify opportunities to implement a collaborative research. According to UTeM Assistant Vice Chancellor (Industry and Community Network), Prof. Dr. Muhammad Ghazie Ismail who chaired the meeting, the discussion with Lotus Engineering is a platform to open opportunities to UTeM researchers to cooperate with experts in various areas such as mechanical, electronics, manufacturing and other relevant engineering areas. UTeM researchers will prepare the research proposals to be submitted to Lotus Engineering as the initial steps for the research collaboration. Lotus Engineering were represented by Stuart Ian Worrow, Key Account Manager, Nazmi Syahrin Kasmurin, Senior Engineer and Lee Jones, Powertrain Lead. |
